Problem Solving is a cornerstone of the SSC CGL Tier-I General Intelligence & Reasoning section. It tests your ability to apply logical and analytical thinking to unfamiliar situations, often under time pressure. Unlike pure arithmetic, these problems require you to identify patterns, deduce relationships, and draw valid conclusions from given information. This chapter covers the essential sub-topics that appear in the exam: logical reasoning foundations, analytical reasoning (seating arrangements and puzzles), syllogism, blood relations, direction sense, coding-decoding, symbol substitution, order and ranking, sequence and series, data sufficiency, and decision making. Mastering these areas is crucial because they constitute a significant portion of the reasoning paper and can be solved quickly with practice. The chapter is structured to build your concepts progressively, starting with basic principles and moving to complex applications. Each section includes solved examples and practice questions to reinforce learning. To study effectively, focus on understanding the underlying logic rather than memorizing answers. Practice regularly with a timer to improve speed and accuracy. Pay attention to common traps and learn time-saving techniques such as elimination and approximation. By the end of this chapter, you will be well-equipped to tackle a variety of problem-solving questions confidently in the SSC CGL exam.
